Kardian HST is able to monitor for breathing rate, heart rate and movement (including toss & turn) in order to accurately analyze AHI data.
KARDIAN can be used on a nightstand with Wi-Fi connection for homes and it can also be installed on the walls or ceiling of hospitals and nursing homes with simple wiring.
Compared to a medical equipment Philips Alice 5, Kardian was able to repeatedly achieve 86% ~ 94% accuracy. When paired with a blutooth SPO2 sensor, accuracy jumped to over 94%.
Kardian devices are not affetected by dirt, dust, light or temperature. There is no physical maintenance to worry about. There is also no need to replace any parts unlike pressure pad based systems.
MORE THAN 18 MILLION AMERICANS SUFFER FROM OSA. Less than 50% of Americans say they regularly get a solid night’s sleep. 80% – 90% of people with OSA are undiagnosed – they simply do not know!
Risk includes LACK OF CONCENTRATION (MEMORY LOSS), IRRITABILITY & DEPRESSION. OSA CAN CAUSE – HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, STROKE (2X RISK), HEART DISEASE, DEMENTIA, DIABETES — all very serious health risks to avoid.

Since 2014, Kardian collaborated with Hanyang Medical University Hospital to fine tune and calibrate SLEEP APNEA (OSA) using IR-UWB RADAR. Below are some of the actual test results from such research.
Kardian’s sleep apnea was able to achieve 83%~94% accuracy compared to Philips Alice 5 / NightOne HST unit. Accuracy increases and becomes more stable with the addition of optional Bluetooth fingertip SPO2 sensor.
In 2008, Home Sleep Testing (HST) was approved by Medicare and all 5 of the major commercial players. Over 50% of US adult population has access to HST. In fact, the global home sleep testing kit market is now estimated to be valued at over $4B. The three major players in the market are Resmed, Novasom and Philips. The underlying principle for traditional HST is to retrieve information about the user during the sleep – information such as airflow, oxygen saturation (SPO2), heart rate and movement (to look for respiratory/chest effort).
Kardian’s unique technology is able to get 86% accurate AHI (Apnea-Hypopnea Index which is used to indicate the severity of sleep apnea) as compared to its competitors without having a single wire or device on the body. This is because Kardian is able to detect and monitor heart rate, breathing rate and movement of the entire body but also the chest area which will provide measurement of respiratory effort. What’s missing is the blood oxygen levels which can be done by wearing an optional Bluetooth SPO2 sensor on one fingertip. Using the optional SPO2 sensor will increase the accuracy even further.
The primary purpose of using HST is to determine the severity of Sleep Apnea. This is done with AHI data – Apnea-Hypopnea Index as seen on the chart on the left. Kardian’s performance ranges from 86% (100% contactless & wireless) to 93% (optional fingertip Bluetooth SPO2 sensor). If a competitor’s device gives a reading of “19 AHI” for example, Kardian may provide a result of “17 AHI” which will still fall under the bracket of “15 to 30” which is “Moderate”.
Once the severity of sleep apnea is determined, the user can take further action for treatment. There are several types of treatment, including the use of CPAP which provides constant flow of air that keeps the airway open and prevents collapse. However, for the most part, sleep apnea is a chronic condition that does not go away. Losing weight, eating well, not consuming alcohol before sleep can all help to reduce sleep apnea. The benefit of Kardian’s HST is that it is so effortless and automatic that you can use it on a daily basis and get LONG term results for better analysis for the consumer.
Kardian's technology provides complete remote health monitoring including fall detection, breathing rate / resting heart rate detection, sleep apnea (OSA) as well as provide urgent action upon a possible medical emergency (PERS).
Kardian is currently only available for hospitals, remote patient monitoring service providers and senior care facilities. If you wish to learn more about what Kardian can do for your organization, please contact us by billing out the form on the left. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
